Hornbeam Bonsai

Botanical name: Carpinus

Hornbeam are a beloved tree in the Bonsai world.  They have delineating vascular lines that carry through the tree’s smooth, creamy white bark.  They have rugged cracks in the aged trunk, fantastic angular branching, small leaves and fantastic fall colors.  The two main types of Hornbeam that we carry are the Korean Hornbeam and Japanese Hornbeam.

Hardy Bonsai material needs to be wintered over in a protected cold spot so that they can go through their natural dormancy period.  Inside an unheated garage, cold frame, or bury in the ground with good insulation for the roots.
