Acer rubrum 'Franksred'
Red Sunset red maple

Red Sunset develops an upright, oval crown supported by a regular branching pattern. Glossy dark green foliage fills the canopy through summer, changing to orange-red and red in autumn. Selected by J. Frank Schmidt Jr., this vigorous red maple is a substantial shade tree rather than a small ornamental maple.

Growing & care
- Site
- Prefers slightly acidic soil. Allow space between surface roots and paving.
- Pruning
- Prune lightly, removing dead, damaged or rubbing branches while preserving the natural outline. For elective cuts, wait until the leaves are fully expanded to reduce maple sap bleeding; large limbs need a qualified arborist.
- Soil
- Prefers moist, slightly acidic soil; clay is tolerated. Alkaline soil can cause manganese chlorosis.
