Variety with a point of view
A broad assortment that mixes reliable landscape performers with unusual plants worth getting excited about.
Our story
Independent, curious
and growing since 1984.
Reminiscent began as a small family nursery and grew by helping gardeners find plants that fit, not simply whatever was easiest to stock.
Rooted in Northern Kentucky
A nursery built around science, design and service.
Stephanie Renaker-Jansen and Richard (Dick) Jansen founded Reminiscent in 1984. With more than 40 years of experience each, they bring a deep knowledge of plants, a thoughtful eye for design and a genuine love of helping people grow. Stephanie’s experience running the nursery and Richard’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Kentucky complement the practical knowledge they have built together. From choosing a plant for your garden to exploring bonsai, their guidance is grounded in decades of hands-on experience.
Today the nursery carries a wide range of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, grasses, fruits, vegetables, bonsai and more, along with the harder-to-find varieties that make a visit feel like discovery.
What we value
Good plants. Honest guidance. More possibility.
Knowledge you can use
Friendly help grounded in how plants actually grow in our soils, weather and gardens.
Design-minded thinking
We still help customers think through an area, even as the business places less emphasis on full landscaping work.
A place for bonsai
A deep collection and years of hands-on experience that have made the nursery a regional bonsai destination.
Local knowledge for Kentucky gardens
Good questions deserve good answers.
We refer customers to University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension for soil analysis, complex plant questions and other local services. We also share their newsletters to help you keep growing.
