Sweetgum Bonsai

Botanical name: Liquidambar

Sweetgum have leaves that grow alternating and their palmate shape resembles maple leaves with three, five or seven lobes and serrated edges. The autumn colors range from yellow, orange, red and purple. The trunk has a greyish-brown bark which becomes deeply furrowed with age.

Hardy Bonsai material needs to be wintered over in a protected cold spot so that they can go through their natural dormancy period.  Inside an unheated garage, cold frame, or bury in the ground with good insulation for the roots.
